Tax number

A Turkish tax number (vergi kimlik numarası) is needed for almost everything: renting, buying property, bank accounts, subscriptions. It is free and quick to get.

Step by step

  1. Go to the tax office (vergi dairesi) in Fethiye with your passport – the number is usually issued on the spot.
  2. Alternatively, apply online through the Revenue Administration's interactive tax office.
  3. Once you have a residence permit, your foreign ID number (starting with 99) also works as your tax number.

Documents

  • Passport and a copy
  • Address (Turkish or home country)

Good to know

  • Keep the printout with the number – many offices ask for it.
