Open a business

Foreigners can register a company in Türkiye on the same terms as citizens. Most small businesses choose a sole proprietorship or a limited company (Ltd. Şti.); an accountant (mali müşavir) handles most of the paperwork.

Step by step

  1. Choose the legal form and find an accountant (mali müşavir) – you will need one anyway for bookkeeping and tax returns.
  2. For a company: prepare the articles of association in MERSİS, sign at a notary or the trade registry, and register with the chamber of commerce.
  3. Register with the tax office; it inspects the business address.
  4. Get the licences your activity needs (for example a workplace licence from the municipality) and register employees with social security (SGK).

  • Articles of association (for a company)

Good to know

  • Working in your own business may still require a work permit – ask your accountant.
