Muğla wins 'Youth-Friendly City' award; students ride buses for 1 TL

The Union of Municipalities of Türkiye recognised Muğla's youth projects, including 1 TL in-district transport for university students.

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality received the 'Youth-Friendly City' award at the first Youth-Friendly Cities Governance Summit, hosted by the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye in Ankara on 17 June 2026. Mayor Ahmet Aras accepted the award.

The award recognises projects in education, transport, housing, sport and youth participation in decision-making.

One of the best-known measures is cheaper transport for students: university students pay 1 TL per ride. The scheme started on the campus routes and has since been extended to in-district transport in all districts, as well as the Menteşe–Akyaka line.
